“Teach Me How To Stay” began as a quiet confession during one of the hardest chapters of Randy Jacobs’ life. Wrestling with heartbreak, self-doubt, and the feeling of always being alone, Randy found himself at Ocean Way Studios with a finished piece of music—but no words that truly told the story. Then a single line surfaced, almost uninvited: “Teach me how to stay.” It wasn’t just a lyric, it was a question he was asking himself. When his close friend Stephen Bruton walked in, the song unfolded naturally, the two trading lines like old friends speaking truths out loud. 

 

First recorded by The Boneshakers in 1998, the song has continued to evolve across decades, artists, and interpretations, culminating in this intimate acoustic version featuring Jenny Langer’s soulful, lived-in vocal. It’s a timeless plea for understanding, connection, and growth—and the perfect entry point into the story and spirit of this new EP.
